I composed Marimba Movie for marimba and woodwind ensemble in 2009 and arranged the work for marimba and piano in 2018. It's a joyful, rhythmic piece in a broadly ABA structure, with rapid outer sections and a slower, mellower central part. The music employs a distinctive recurring theme combined with a dialogue of lucid textures between the instruments.

 

The marimba and piano arrangement was recorded by GBSR Duo, with George Barton on marimba and Siwan Rhys on piano, and broadcast on BBC Radio 3's In Tune in March 2019.
